Idaho Statesman on the Club
The Idaho Canoe and Kayak Club must be doing something right. Its outings have enticed up to 150 Treasure Valley boaters to Idaho waterways since the late 1980s. Floats from May to October typically draw from 40 to 70 boaters.
Stan Kolby and Jo Cassin, the co-owners of Idaho River Sports in Boise, have been an integral part of the club's success. "The club did exactly what we wanted it to do," said Kolby, which was to bring together boaters on Idaho's rivers and lakes.
The club already has floated the Middle Fork of the Payette River and had a Father's Day trip planned for a meandering stretch of the North Fork of the Payette River. If you want to tag along, outings are announced a few months in advance. Membership is free and the trips aren't guided. Just show up at the designated time and place. Paddlers bring their own equipment, including life jackets and first aid and rescue gear. You'll also need to supply your own transportation to the put-in, where a shuttle is arranged.
